Maggie A. Lewis is a seasoned nonprofit executive and public servant with more than 25 yearsof experience dedicated to advancing communities, strengthening organizations, and improvingoutcomes for those most in need.
A proud alumna of Indiana State University, Lewis earned a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education and a Master of Public Administration after graduating from Columbus East High School. Since completing her studies, she has devoted her career to public service, focusing on organizational leadership, community impact, and strategic growth in the nonprofit sector.
Lewis currently serves as President of the Indianapolis City-County Council, her second time in this role, continuing a historic tenure marked by effective governance and collaborative leadership. She previously served six years as Council President, becoming the first woman in the Council’s history to hold the position. She also made history as the first woman elected as Majority Leader, demonstrating her ability to lead at the highest levels of municipal government.
In addition to her public leadership, Lewis has served for the past eight years as Chief Executive Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis. In this capacity, she has overseen all aspects of organizational operations, including strategic planning, financial management, resource development, and program delivery. Her leadership has been instrumental in strengthening the organization’s financial position, expanding its funding base, and deepening its impact across the Indianapolis community.
Prior to her role at BGCI, Lewis held leadership positions across both corporate and nonprofit sectors. She supported quality assurance and community engagement initiatives at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino and built a strong track record within multiple nonprofit organizations, where she led comprehensive fundraising strategies and developed high-impact partnerships to advance mission-driven work.
Her civic and professional engagement extends to several prominent organizations. Lewis is an active member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and The Links, Incorporated. She also serves on the Board of Directors for The Mind Trust and the Community Health Network Foundation, contributing her expertise in governance, philanthropy, and community development.
Lewis is married to fellow Indiana State University alumnus LeRoy Lewis III, and together they are the proud parents of LeRoy Lewis IV.
